During this global health crisis, it’s important to continue to receive the care you need and seek immediate treatment for urgent and emergent conditions. Don’t delay getting the care you need, and don’t ignore symptoms. Waiting too long to seek care for some healthcare emergencies is a bigger risk than the chance of contracting COVID-19.
“It is important to remember there are other illnesses we need to worry about, not just COVID-19. It’s imperative to monitor your own health and that of your loved ones and to be seen immediately if there are any concerns,” says Overlake infectious disease specialist Edward Leonard, II, MD.
If you’re having an emergency
Emergencies don’t take a break during a pandemic. Accidents and injuries still happen. Heart attacks and strokes still strike, and getting help quickly is key to receiving effective treatment. If you are having a medical emergency, call 911.
For illnesses and injuries that require immediate attention but are not life-threatening, please contact your primary care provider, or visit one of our urgent care clinics.
Keep your routine appointments and preventive screenings
To remain in good health, it’s important to stay on schedule with immunizations, preventive screenings, annual wellness exams and tests, like mammograms and colonoscopies, and appointments to manage chronic conditions, like diabetes and high blood pressure. For many of these appointments, virtual visits may be an option. Your provider can help you choose whether a virtual or in-person visit is the best option for your individual needs.
Continue with important procedures
All surgeries and procedures, including those that were postponed, have resumed. If your surgery, medical procedure or exam was delayed due to COVID-19, contact your provider to reschedule. Your surgery could be rescheduled sooner than you might expect. To maximize safety of our patients, staff and providers at Overlake, all patients undergoing procedures will be screened for COVID-19 prior to their procedure.
Your safety is our highest priority
We’ve taken extra precautions to provide you the healthcare services you need in a safe environment. We regularly monitor the latest guidance from the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) and adjust our policies and procedures to protect our team and serve you.
You will notice some changes in how we provide care at the hospital and clinics:
- Patients, visitors and employees are screened for COVID-19 symptoms, and temperature checks are performed.
- All employees, providers, and patients are required to wear a face mask. If you do not have one, our team members will provide one to you.
- Contact with our team members is minimized during your visit.
- Appointments are staggered to limit the number of people in an area, and chairs in public areas are spaced to allow for social distancing.
- Care for patients with respiratory symptoms is being provided in designated and dedicated locations of our hospital and clinics.
- Providers and staff are equipped with the appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE) to protect you.
- We continue to use enhanced procedures to clean and disinfect all of our facilities.
